Brick Box Events

This fun, artful space is perfect for get-togethers looking for that funky vibe. The high, black ceiling and shimmering hardwood floors in this first-floor space play off the 100-year-old brick wall that gives this room its name. Chic, black cabaret tables lead the way to a corner stage that's ideal for a small ensemble to entertain you and your guests. The space is perfect for gatherings of 75 people or fewer.

MEET THE ARTIST!

The Brick Box Gallery at the Paramount Center is hosting SUNKEN TREASURES, a show by Brandon artist Joan Curtis. The inspiration for Joan Curtis's current show at the Brick Box Gallery is her studies of recent years using boat imagery. Boat conjures up the idea of the voyage and of travelors courageously facing fear of the unknown---journeys to uncharted realms. Joan states that "it is a theme with magical possilities for the artist.

Her studies resulted in a group of Boathouse paintings from the spring of this year which then evolved into the Sunken Treasures series. Beginning paintings of this group are shown at the Brick Box along with a new large mixed-media work , Ancestral Voices. In addition to other paintings and three-dimensional works, Joan is creating a concoction for the Brick Box Installation Window.

Joan Curtis creates her colorful visionary sculptures and paintings in a variety of media. She exhibits throughout New England and in invitationals elsewhere, and she has given workshops at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center, W. Rutland. Her work is in the public collections of Middlebury College Museum of Art, UVMs Fleming Museum (Burlington, VT), and the Fuller Museum of Art (Brockton, MA). Joan lives and works in Brandon. Normally her artwork can be seen at the Brandon Artists Guild on Center Street, in her own studio on Union Street--especially during Open Studio weekends, and at Furchgott & Sourdiffe Gallery, Shelburne, VT (fsgallery.com).

SUNKEN TREASURES is on view October 10 through November 8.

Gallery hours are 11 AM to 6 PM Thursdays and Fridays; 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays.
